Club Notes Sunday, January 10th, 2016

posted 11 Jan 2016, 09:15 by Jimmy O'Brien
Thanks to all the households who supported our the senior men’s footballers Christmas Tree Recycling Day last Saturday. The event was devised and organised by the players themselves with the proceeds going to the club.

Well done to our senior player of the year for 2015, Jude McGarry, who made his intercounty debut with Sligo Under 21s recently in the North West Cup competition - a fitting recognition for his development as a footballer in recent seasons.

The achievements of our underage hurlers and footballers in 2015 will be formally recognised later this month when the club holds its annual Juvenile Awards ceremony in Rathcormac Hall on Friday January 29th at 7:30pm. This promises to be a special event for our younger players and their families as we celebrate a memorable 12 months for the club. Our five county championship winning teams will receive their medals on the night. There’ll also be a disco and refreshments. Admission is free. More details on the DRP facebook page.

Monthly club meetings for 2016 will be held on the LAST Monday of each month in Oxfield at 9pm. The January meeting will be on Monday 25th. All prospective team managers are requested to be at this meeting for the purposes of being ratified for the year ahead.

Sligo GAA is holding a number of Foundation and Award 1 coaching courses in the coming weeks. These are mandatory courses for all club mentors. Interested coaches should contact club coaching officer Declan Carroll for more details.

The club’s GAA nursery for 2016 is provisionally scheduled to commence on Saturday, February 27th. More details in the coming weeks.

Save the date: The club will hold a fun table quiz in Harry’s Bar, Rosses Point on Saturday, February 6th. More details soon.

Tickets for the GAA’s National Club Draw are now available from club officers. This annual nationwide draw includes substantial prizes including All-Ireland football and hurling final VIP packages as well as a trip for two on the All-Stars trip. The club keeps all the proceeds from the tickets it sells for the draw, which will be made in March. To buy your ticket, contact any club officer.

The first club newsletter for 2016 will be published on Wednesday, January 27th. If you have items for inclusion, please email PRO Austin O’Callaghan at pro.drumclifferossespoint.sligo@gaa.ie or phone 087 6855621.
