  • The U14 hurlers were beaten by Easkey/St Farnan’s in their ‘A’ championship final last Friday in Markievicz Pk. The game was a rematch of the league final  and the poor  weather conditions made it difficult for both teams. Superior skills & strength provided the platform for the Easkey victory by 2- 17 to 1-3.  One highlight of the game was the brilliant penalty save by DRP captain Patrick. O Connor.  This team has made tremendous progress during the year. Thanks to all the parents for their support, and to Davis's Restaurant for providing refreshments after Friday’s match.

Well done to all 17 panel members involved.  Particular thanks go to the parents for their support, and to Davis’s Restaurant for providing the post-match food and refreshments. • The U16 hurlers enjoyed their first ever victory at this age group against Naomh Eoin last Monday.  However, they were unable to follow that up on Saturday when they lost to Tubbercurry by four points.
  • Our U14s had an easy victory over Tourlestrane on Tuesday with Sean Leonard scoring three goals. Next up was the league final against Easkey last Friday. The team put in a fantastic performance and were just two points behind at half-time against their fancied opponents. In the second-half Easkey pushed further ahead but our boys never gave up and got the last two scores of the match before losing out on a final scoreline of 3-9 to 2-5. Having failed to score against Easkey in their two previous matches, last Friday’s performance illustrated the fine progress that this team is making.

  • All roads lead to Castleblaney in County Monaghan this weekend for our U14 hurlers. 21 players and their mentors will compete in Féile 2015. Castleblaney Faughs are our hosts for the weekend. Féile is being co-hosted this year by all nine Ulster counties. Féile na nGael is an international festival of under-age hurling, camogie and handball for both boys and girls. The three-day tournament for U14s will bring up to 25,000 visitors to Ulster. We wish the lads every success. The team warmed up for Féile with a very good win against Naomh Eoin in the league. They were trailing by a point at half-time but managed to score 5-7 in the second half and secure victory.

2014 News

The U12 hurlers Win County Title for 2014

The U12 hurlers captured the clubs first U12Ahurling title  last Tues building on the success of the U12B victory in 2013. In a very close match V Naomh Eoin the game served up a very high standard of hurling and entertained the crowd in Markievicz Pk.   Naomh Eoin opened the scoring but it was nip and tuck throughout the first half and despite losing captain Ryan Gallagher through injury the score at half time was 5pts apiece. In a tightly fought second half where the DRP defensive was resolute but  could do nothing to stop the unerring accuracy of the Naomh Eoin free taking, the overall strength and scoring power of DRP was decisive.   Many of the players were on the team which captured the clubs first Feile title earlier this year and this experienced helped them to pull away in the closing stages to win 10pts to 7pts.

The team included Oisin Mc Gloin, Michael Broders, Senan O Rourke, Augusine Waters, Daniel O Connor, Tola Caraway, Ryan Gallagher, Ciaran O Reilly, Danny Cronin, Evan Ballaintine, Ian O Brien Sean Leonard & Paul O Brien.  Well done to the six  U14 & two U16 players who lined out for Sligo in the All- Ireland B hurling championships held in Newry last weekend.

U12 hurlers continue on winning way

Following on from their great win in the league final the U12 played Coolera in the City Board league and had a narrow 6 - 4 victory.  The match was  played in blustery conditions and ended up being a tale of two halves with DRP racing into a 5 -1 half time lead and then holding out for hard earned win.

On Sunday 22nd Sept the team recorded a 2- 0 victory over Naomh Eoin.  This closely fought contest was scoreless at half time and a brace of quick scores for DRP sealed the win and guarantees a place in the City Board final. This result shows the tremendous progress made by this team during the year, as Naomh Eoin were the victors in their Championship clash earlier in the year.

Their next match is against Calry on Sunday 29th Sept @ 12noon in Calry and the finals scheduled for 6th October.

U10 team blitz opposition

The U10 hurlers took to the field in two recent blitz hosted by Coolera and Naomh Eoin.  On each occasion over 13 players turned up and displayed their improving skills. Their ages varied from as young as 7 and up to 10 years all playing their part.  Over the series of blitz so far they have remained undefeated despite being involved in a number of close games.  The venue for the next  blitz is Monday 29th in Calry @6pm and a final blitz will be held the following Monday -  venue to be confirmed.

September 1st - Well done to the U12 Hurlers
Hurling, we beat Glencar-Manor in the U 12 Hurling league final on Tuesday last in Markievicz Park on a score of 0-12 to 0-03, this is the first team from the club to win a county hurling title and is a very positive indication of the strides hurling as made within the club in a short space of time.
