The DRP boys U16 footballers received their Division 3 league winners medals last Friday.

The achievements and dedication of our juvenile hurlers and footballers over the past 12 months were acknowledged at our Juvenile Celebration Evening in Rathcormac Hall last Friday. Players, mentors and family members gathered for our celebration evening. Our thanks to Sligo GAA hurling officer Benny Kenny, and our senior club players Brian Óg Murphy and Paul Logan who presenter the various medals on the night. Hard luck to our various club players who were involved with the Sligo men’s and women’s county teams which lost their opening national league games against Armagh and Clare respectively last Sunday.

Josh Henry (back row, 2nd from left) was part of the Sligo Grammar team which won the national U16 ‘C’ basketball title in Tallaght last week.

A number of our underage club players were involved in national and provincial sporting success last week. Congrats to Rosses Point’s Josh Henry who helped Sligo Grammar School win an All-Ireland U16 basketball title at the National Arena in Tallaght. There were also seven DRP players involved with the Summerhill College juvenile gaelic football team (pictured below) which won the Connacht Juvenile ‘A’ league title after a 0-14 to 2-2 success over St Jarlath’s of Tuam. The players involved were: Ciarán O’Reilly, Ciarán Smith, Hugh Keaney, Ben Kelly, Cian Oates, Desmond Gillen and Josh Brady.

Well done to our senior club footballer Jamie Gillen who was part of the UCD Sigerson panel which beat Maynooth University in the opening round of the competition last Tuesday.

Our monthly club meeting for January has been postponed as a mark of respect the King family in Carney, following the death of Michael King, Kilkee, Co Clare, at the weekend (brother of Liz King Kisby).

Drumcliffe Handball Club coaching continues every Saturday morning in the Oxfield centre. New players are always very welcome. Open to boys and girls aged 6 upwards. See the handball club’s Facebook page for details of session times.

The club is holding a First Aid Course in Oxfield on the weekend of February 9 & 10th. Places are limited so interested coaches should contact our coaching officer Declan Carroll on 0879480114.

Our Saturday morning GAA football nursery will start on Saturday March 3rd. More details in the coming weeks.
