It is with great sadness that Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA club learned today of the passing of Carol Gallagher / Mc Gowan.

Carol was one of the first to help establish hurling in the club with John and Ryan being amongst the first players to arrive from St Molaise Gaels.  She was also instrumental in bringing other players to the club, which later led to the formation of the amalgamated hurling team of Benbulben Gaels.

Carol worked tirelessly to assist with the promotion of hurling and was involved in all the major achievements of the Gaels. The first of the 3 in a row U12A titles.  Qualification to  the Connacht Táin League semi final.  The first U14 and U16 county titles and the first of the three U14 Feile teams which travelled to Castledawson, Derry, Castleblaney, Monaghan and the one closest to her own heart Arravale Rovers in Tipperary.

She regularly arrived at training with herself and the boys decked out in the Tipp jersey and of course on the trips to Croke Park which she revelled in, particularly Tipp’s win over Cork in the semi final.  The crowning achievement was John, Carol and Ryan being the driving force behind our first Minor team which fielded against Tourlestrane.

North Sligo hurling is indebted to Carol, without her it may never have survived and certainly would not be where it is today.  Many players and families enjoyed trips, matches and special moments thanks to Carol.

Our deepest sympathies to the Gallagher and McGowan Family. May Carol Rest in Peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam
