Our senior men’s footballers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in their championship relegation semi-final last Saturday evening at Markievicz Park. Having led by 10 points at one stage, we subsequently lost our way as opponents St Molaise Gaels staged a strong second-half comeback to eventually beat us by 2-14 to 1-12. While the wind was a factor, the manner of defeat was disappointing. We now face Curry in the relegation play-off final – a must-win match if we want to preserve our senior championship status for 2018.

Next up: It’s the turn of the junior men’s footballers who play Calry/Joseph’s in the ‘B’ championship semi-final this Saturday 30th in Scarden at 5:30pm.

Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers completed a unique treble in 2017. Their Cup final win over Tourlestrane at Markievicz Park means they have won the U14 league, féile and championship titles in Sligo in a single year.

Big congratulations to the Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers who made it a trio of League, Féile and Championship titles in 2017, by winning the Championship final last Thursday evening with a 6-7 to 1-4 win against Tourlestrane. The foundation for the win was set in the first half when they scored 6-5 and only conceded 0-2.  A number of the players will line out for the U16 team in the shield final in Scarden on Monday against the same opposition when the team will try to capture an U16 title for the first time
The win was a personal triumph for Ciarán O’Reilly (pictured below) who has now captained the clubs U14 hurlers AND footballers to silverware this season.

The boys U16 footballers play their County ‘B’ championship semi-final against Coolaney/Mullinabreena at Nace O’Dowd Park in Achonry this Sunday at 12pm. The team secured their place in the last four thanks to two impressive victories in the space of 48 hours last week – firstly beating St Mary’s on Monday evening in Scarden, and following that up two days later with a fine a win against Tourlestrane.

Congratulations to our former club player Brian McAteer who helped Dunedin Connollys GAA club in Edinburgh to lift the Scottish senior football championship title after an extra-time win over Glasgow Gaels at the weekend. Dunedin reached the All-Ireland junior club semi-finals last season.
