We may not have had any playing involvement at Markievicz Park last Sunday but two of our long-serving club volunteers were recognised during a special ceremony as part of the county final formalities on the day. Sligo GAA honoured its volunteering network by paying tribute to two volunteers from each club in the county. All the volunteers were introduced to the crowd during a ceremony between the hurling and football finals.

Phil Gallagher & Michael Tighe were two of a selection of long-serving volunteers from across Sligo’s clubs who were honoured during Sunday’s county football and hurling finals at Markieivcz Park.

The two DRP members to be honoured were Phil Gallagher (Snr) and Michael McTighe (pictured) for their lifelong service and dedication to the club down through the years. Another club member, Brian Drury was also recognised on the day as one of the Markievcz Park stewards/volunteers to have served their community with distinction. Congrats to all three on their deserved recognition last Sunday.

Storm Brian blew last weekend’s Junior ‘B’ football championship final replay between DRP and St Molaise Gaels off course with the game being postponed because of an unplayable pitch at Scarden. The match has been refixed for bank holiday Monday (Oct 30th) in Kent Park (St Mary’s GAA Club), at Ipm.  We wish the management team of James McTiernan, Paddy Gormley, Kevin Dufficy and the team every success in the replay.

The curtain came down on our GAA football nursery coaching season last Saturday morning with an end-of-season party for our young footballers aged 4-10 years of age. Thanks to all the parents, guardians and coaches who helped out with the catering and presentations. The kids had a ball. Remember to keep practising over the winter months. The football nursery is scheduled to resume again at the end of February 2018.

There will still be plenty of underage activity in Oxfield over the winter season…

Nursery hurling coaching will continue over the winter months (indoors) for players aged 7-10 years. For more info, contact Aidan O’Reilly on 0879785311.

Handball coaching also continues every Saturday morning in Oxfield hall from ages six up to adult (all abilities) between 9:309am and 12:30pm. See the Drumcliffe Handball Club Facebook page for details.

A special word of thanks to former DRP ladies team captain Siobhán O’Sullivan who was recently back to help prepare the ladies minor team for their County ‘A’ championship semi-final replay recently against Tourlestrane. While the game ended in a narrow defeat for the girls (1-7 to 0-9), the players and team mentors were very grateful for her work and input in the lead-up to the match.

The Sligo gaelic masters footballers (including our own Ronan Keane, front row third from right, who will play Cavan in this Saturday’s re-arranged All-Ireland semi-final.

Good luck to Good luck to Ronan Keane and the Sligo Masters footballers who play Cavan in their re-arranged All-Ireland semi-final this Saturday 28th. The team are one win away from an All-Ireland final appearance against either Donegal or Mayo.

The club’s monthly meeting for October will take place on Monday 30th in Oxfield at 9pm.
