Green was the colour for the club’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations with a big crowd of footballers, hurlers, coaches and parents braving the cold and joining in the fun of the Sligo parade. Thanks to all our walkers who took part. Afterwards, we adjorned to Harry’s in Rosses Point for the club’s annual Family Hot Pot event. The delicious food was heartily welcomed. Sincere thanks to main event organisers Mary Power, Mary Carway, Karen Joyce and the teams of chefs and ticket sellers for a very enjoyable afternoon. The rugby result helped too!

Several club players were part of the Summerhill College junior and juvenile football teams who reached their respective Connacht finals last week. Eoghan Smith, Ian O’Brien & Eddie Fitzpatrick are part of the junior squad while Ciarán O’Reilly, Cian Oates, Josh Brady, Ben Kelly, Hugh Keaney, Ciarán Smith and Desmond Gillen all feature on the college’s juvenile team. Our best wishes to Dessie who fractured his wrist at the weekend.

Our girls U14 footballers produced a fine display in their Féile match against CT Gaels last Sunday afternoon before losing narrowly by two points. It was a great effort by the players.

The competitive season is cranking up for several of our club teams. Our boys U16 footballers open their league campaign this Saturday morning with a home match against Tourlestrane at 11am. Later that day, our senior men’s footballers will begin their 2018 season with a Kiernan Cup (Group 2) game against Coolera/Strandhill in Scarden at 5pm. They will then open their Furey’s Coaches Division 1 league campaign the following weekend, on Saturday, March 31st, against Coolaney/Mullinabreena at Oxfield. Throw-in: 6pm.

A frozen pitch in Keash forced the postponement of the ladies intermediate footballers Spring League game against Eastern Harps at the weekend. They are scheduled to host CT Gaels in Oxfield this Sunday.

Saturday morning GAA coaching for our nursery footballers resumes this Saturday, March 24th, in Oxfield.
Session times are as follows:
Players born 2012 & 2013: 9:45am to 10:30am (Indoors)
Players born, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011: 10:30am to 11:30am (Outdoors)
NB: Please ensure that players wear their gumshields and that kids involved in the outdoor (10:30am) sessions wear warm layers – and football gloves.

The club’s monthly meeting for March takes place on Monday 26th in Oxfield at 9pm.
