The senior men’s footballers earned a share of the spoils in their opening Division 1 league game against Coolaney/Mullinabreena at Oxfield on Saturday evening. In the end, a draw was a decent result given the number of players missing through injury and unavailability. We went into the match without the injured Ronan McCormack, Seán Power, Cian Lally & Niall Collery. Jude McGarry was also unavailable and Brian ÓgMurphy got injured in the warm-up. The match didn’t start promisingly with Coolaney/Mullinabreena establishing a commanding 0-7 to 0-2 advantage after 15 minutes. But we somehow got ourselves back into the match with Paul Logan’s first half goal narrowing the deficit. Logie would finish with a personal tally of 1-7. The sides were level at 1-6 to 0-9 at the interval. The visitors led again midway through the second-half. But two fine Eoin Gaughan points nudged DRP in front again going into the closing stages. CMB responded with a free near the end to ensure the teams finished level.
