The draw for the 2018 Belfry senior club championship in Sligo has grouped our senior men’s footballers with neighbours St Molaise Gaels and Coolera/Strandhill in the group stages. The 2018 championship is scheduled to start on the weekend of August 5th. The group matches will be played at neutral venues.

The concession of a goal in added time cost our senior team dear last Saturday evening in Ransboro as they lost their Division 1 match to Coolera/Strandhill by a point, 2-7 to 1-9. Despite missing several players through injury and unavailability, we had looked the more likely winners going into the closing stages after Jamie Gillen’s second-half goal and six points from Eoin Gaughan swung the contest our way. But the late goal give the home side the points. Saturday’s team was: Justy Lyons, Tommy Finnegan, Jude McGarry, Ciaran McLaughlin, Jamie Gillen 1-0, Dara Long, Cian Doyle, Brian Monaghan, Stephen Regan 0-1, Neil Ewing (Capt) 0-1, Eoin Gaughan 0-6, Hugh Kisby, Donal Gallagher, Paul Logan 0-1, Kevin Davey. Subs: David Collins for Cian Doyle, John Hester for Kevin Davey, Joseph Keyes, Tom Armstrong, Seán Flanagan. Manager: Fergal O’Flaherty. Next up: The seniors play Tubbercurry this Saturday evening in Oxfield at 6:30pm.

Our girls U12 footballers began their league season last Thursday evening with a 14 points to 7 defeat at home to St John’s. Best of luck to the ladies intermediate footballers who start their Division 2 league campaign this Sunday morning at Oxfield when they play Calry/St Joseph’s at 10am. Commiserations to the Sligo ladies team who were relegated from Division 2 of the NFL last Sunday following their defeat to Laois.
