Isabella Henry, Maeve Casserly Caoimhe Connor were part of the Sligo U14 girls football team which won the Connacht C Championship title last Sunday. Also part of the squad was Rianne Smith.

Connacht Success For Girls
Several of our underage girls footballers enjoyed Connacht success at the weekend. Sinéad Regan, Kate Keyes, Grace Casserly and Rachel Quigley were part of the Sligo minor ladies football panel which beat Leitrim by 5-14 to 3-8 to lift to Connacht ‘C’ Championship title on Saturday in Swinford. The following day, Maeve Casserly, Isabella Henry, Caoimhe Connor (pictured) and Rianne Smith were part of the U14 county squad which beat the same county by 2-11 to 0-1 to win the Connacht U14 championship title. We wish Rianne a speedy recovery from injury, which meant she was unable to play in last Sunday’s game.

Seniors
The senior men’s footballers let another promising lead slip in the closing quarter to suffer their first defeat in the Kiernan Cup (Group 2) on Saturday evening Shamrock Gaels came through on a final scoreline of 2-9 to 1-9. Kevin Davey was the team’s top scorer on the evening with 1-3 but having established a three-point lead with fifteen minutes to go, we lost our way and allowed the home side to regain control and get the win. With Sligo in Connacht Championship action, there is no senior game this weekend. Saturday’s team was: Justin Lyons, Ciaran McLaughlin, Tommy Finnegan, Jude McGarry, John Harvey, Dara Long, Hugh Kisby, Brian Monaghan 0-1, Brian Óg Murphy, Jamie Gillen, Eoin Gaughan 0-3, Niall Canning, Paul Logan 0-2, Kevin Davey 1-3.
Subs used: Aaron McCormack for John Harvey, Joseph Keyes for Logie.

Ladies Intermediate Footballers
The DRP ladies team scored six second-half goals, including a wonder finish from corner forward Molly Brady, but it still wasn’t enough for our ladies intermediate footballers to prevent St Michael’s from collecting the two points on Sunday morning in what was highly entertaining Division 2 league encounter. St Michael’s won on a final scoreline of 5-12 to 6-7 but DRP had the winning of this match for much of the second half, only for the visitors to score two late goals in the dying moments. The girls travel to south Sligo next Sunday morning to play Curry at 10am. Last Sunday’s team and scorers were: Rachel Quigley, Aisling O’Reilly, Orlaith Furey (Capt), Shirley Nicholson, Lisa McLoughlin, Michelle McNamara, Kate Keyes, Emily McCormack, Sinéad Regan 1-1, Avril Clancy 0-1, Amanda Healy 3-3, Ella McDermott, Róisín Healy 0-1, Laura Oates 1-0, Molly Brady 1-1. Subs: Grace Casserly for Lisa McLoughlin, Tracey O’Boyle for Molly Brady, Megan Brady, Zara Mulrooney, Riona O’Connor.

Quiz Thanks
Saturday night’s fundraising Table Quiz for Feile 2018 had just about everything: 19 teams, spot prizes, good craic, pizza…and even a hen party (of sorts!). A big thank-you to everybody who came along to support the event, particularly the great support from Grange. The night was a big success. Our generous and welcoming hosts at Davis’s Restaurant in Drumcliffe pulled out all the stops. Congrats to the quiz quartet of Rowan O’Callaghan, Aidan O’Reilly, Declan Carroll & Gerard Carroll who knew their ‘Lee Chin’ from their ‘Christy Ring’ to claim the top prize overall.

Clothes Recycle Collection
There was a good response to our clothes recycling collection day in Rosses Point and Oxfield as Saturday. Thank you to all our volunteers who staffed the collection points during the course of the day – and to you for donating your unwanted clothes etc.

Awards & Call-Ups
Congrats to Elena and Tola Carway on their selection to the Irish Under 18 & Under 16 Racquetball development squads respectively. A fab achievement.

A mention to for our boys U16 football manager Des Henry, who showed yet again that he is a man of many parts and talents, when he was picked up a team manager gong for his work with the EJ’s Sligo All-Stars basketball club over the past 12 months.
