All-Ireland football final Sunday was a very special occasion for U14 club footballer Rianne Smith (pictured in back rown here) who represented her club and county in the Cumann na mBunscol exhibition games during the senior and minor finals at GAA HQ.

She scored 1-1 in her match too, wearing Tyrone colours. We wonder how her Mum (a proud Down woman) feels about that!

Rianne Smith represented DRP and Sligo in the Cumann na mBunscol exhibtions matches at Croke Park on All-Ireland final Sunday 2018.

Congrats to our All-Ireland final ticket draw winners last week who were: Jimmy Currid (Carney), Brian Monaghan, Phil Gallagher (Snr) & Damien Kerrigan.

Our ladies intermediate footballers collected their first championship win at Oxfield last Sunday morning when they recorded a comprehensive 3-13 to 2-5 victory over Owenmore Gaels. They play their next round-robin match this Sunday morning (Sept 9th) against Calry/St Joseph’s in Hazelwood at 10 O’Clock. Last Sunday’s team was: Rachel Quigley, Orlaith Furey (Capt), Aimee Oates, Avril Clancy, Lisa Mcloughlin, Michelle McNamara, Kate Keyes, Sinead Regan (0-2), Jayne McCormack, Molly Brady (0-2), Amanda Healy (2-2), Laura Oates (1-3), Róisín Healy (0-3), Tracy O’Boyle, Megan Brady (0-1). Subs; Shirley Nicholson, Zara Mulrooney, Grace Casserley, Aishling O’Reilly.

Our senior footballers will face the losers of the championship relegation semi-final between Eastern Harps and St John’s, who meet this weekend. This relegation ‘final’ will determine our championship status (senior or intermediate) for 2019.

If you’re in front of the telly next Thursday evening, switch over to TG4 at 9:30pm for the new series of ‘The Underdogs‘ GAA programme. Ten years on from the last series, the search is on for a brand new team of footballing hopefuls – and it will feature a DRP club man – our own Niall Canning. The craic should be good. Hope there isn’t an auction!
