We are hosting a presentation on substance and drug abuse by Detective Garda Inspector Niall Davey in Oxfield this Monday night, March 9th, at 8:30pm. This is primarily for guardians/parents of secondary school students, but all parents are welcome. Admission is free.
Our senior men’s footballers made a winning start to the competitive 2020 season with a 0-8 to 1-2 win against Easkey in the prelim round of the Benson Cup at Oxfield on Saturday. Fergal O’Flaherty’s side now face Castleconnor in the quarter-final next Sunday at home. Throw-in: 2:30pm.
Our women’s intermediate footballers were beaten by St Mary’s on Sunday morning in Division 1 of the Spring League, on a final score of 5-13 to 1-14.
Big congrats to Drumcliffe Handball club member Eoin Kerrigan, who along with his playing partner Cormac Finn from Ballymote, has qualified to represent Sligo in the All-Ireland under 16 A doubles final. They beat Cork in their semi-final at weekend after one of the Cork players was forced to retire through injury. It is nonetheless a tremendous achievement for the talented Sligo handball duo. We wish Eoin and Cormac the very best of luck in the national decider.
A special mention for four DRP club members Eoghan Smith, Cian Oates, Ciarán O’Reilly & Desmond Gillen who were part of the Summerhill College team which contested the Connacht Senior ‘A’ colleges final last Saturday in Charlestown. While the game ended in disappointment, the players can be proud of their progress in this championship campaign. If you haven’t yet seen Eoghan Smith’s exquisite free-taking during the match – into the teeth of a swirling wind in Charlestown – it’s worth a search on Social Media. Maurice Fitzgerald would be proud!
Hard luck to Sinead Regan, Rachel Quigley and the Sligo women’s footballers who lost narrowly to Longford in the NFL last Sunday. We wish Neil Ewing and Cian Lally all the best with the men’s county footballers this Saturday night, as they travel south to take on Carlow in a vital Division 4 game.
The Sligo St Patrick’s Day Parade this year has been postponed because of Coronavirus so our planned participation and Annual Family Hot Pot event in Rossess Point are on hold.
Saturday morning nursery coaching will begin a new season this weekend (Sat March 14th) at the Rathcormac NS playing fields (weather permitting). The nursery is open to girls and boys born in the years 2010 to early 2016. The session times are as follows:
09.45am to 10:30am: Players born in 2014, 2015 & early 2016.
10:30am to 11:30am: Players born 2010 to 2013.
