Our senior men’s footballers made a winning start to their Homeland SFC campaign last Sunday at Kent Park with a 2-7 to 0-6 win over Tubbercurry. We play Shamrock Gaels this Saturday evening under the lights of Tourlestrane at 7:30pm. The game is being livestreamed by Sligo GAA for supporters who can’t make it.

Our junior men’s footballers also began their championship campaign with a 4-15 to 1-7 victory over Enniscrone/Kilglass in Quigabar on Sunday evening. Their second match in Group 4 of the Junior ‘B’ championship is this Friday evening against Easkey in Oxfield at 6:30pm.

Hard luck to the DRP women’s footballers who lost their opening Connacht Gold senior championship group game to holders St Nathy’s at Oxfield last Sunday morning on a final scoreline of 5-8 to 0-8. DRP now play Geevagh in their second and final group game on Sept 10th. The winner will qualify for the county semi-finals. The team now turns it attention to the start of the intermediate championship this Sunday morning (Sept 3rd). We play Eastern Harps in a county semi-final in Keash at 10:30am. The winners qualify for the county final. The losers will get a second-chance to make the decider in a play-off with Eoghan Rua on Sept 17th.

Our junior women’s footballers collected their first championship victory last Saturday evening with a spirited 3-14 to 3-6 win over St John’s. They play Eastern Harps in Keash this Sunday at 11:45am.

Our minor girls footballers play Coolera/Strandhill on Wed, Sept 6th in a must-win game for their championship ambitions this season. Throw-in at Oxfield will be 7pm.

Our boys U15 (2009) team beat St Molaise Gaels last Tuesday at Oxfield to qualify for the championship semi-final in a couple of weeks time – most likely against the same opposition.

Hard luck to our U15 (2008) team who lost out narrowly to Calry/St Joseph’s at Hazelwood last Thursday by 2-12 to 1-14.

Our girls under-14 footballers travel to play St Nathy’s in the championship this Thursday evening at 7pm.

There was no Jackpot or Match 3 winner of the club’s Lotto Draw last week. The numbers drawn were: 7, 18, 22, 32. Claire Carroll collects the €25 Lucky Dip prize. This Thursday’s lotto jackpot now stands at €3,200. To play, visit dpr.gaa.ie.

We extend our condolences to the family of Ann Tiernan, mother of Alan, Ernie and the late Martina Murphy, following her passing last week. She was granny to 27 grandchildren and great-granny to her 36 great-grandchildren.

The club’s monthly meeting for September will take place in Oxfield on Wednesday, Sept 6th, at 9pm sharp.

Big congrats to the Rosses Point U14 Tag Rugby team who won a superb silver medal at the National Community Games finals in Carlow at the weekend. Well done to all the other DRP club members who qualified for the finals of their respective sporting disciplines in Track & Field.
