Hard luck to DRP women’s footballers who were beaten by a fine Eoghan Rua side in last Sunday’s Sligo LGFA intermediate football final in Collooney, on a final scoreline of 3-13 to 3-10. The season is far from over as the team now prepares for the county senior decider on Saturday, Oct 14th, against holders St Nathy’s at Markievicz Park. So, keep the flags up!

In the meantime, our junior women’s footballers have a ‘C’ championship semi-final to get ready for, against Eoghan Rua.

This Sunday is men’s Homeland SFC semi-final Sunday. DRP take on neighbours St Molaise Gaels in the first of a Markievicz Park double-bill at 1:15pm. The team would appreciate big club support at the game as our neighbours will certainly be travelling in large numbers.

Our junior men’s team are also in semi-final action. They are scheduled to play St Farnan’s in the ‘B’ championship semi-final. Fixture details were still being finalised at the time of writing. The winners will face Coolaney/Mullinabreena in the final.

Big congratulations to the DRP boys under-15 footballers who lifted the county title last Sunday in Scarden with a spirited 0-11 to 1-6. It was a tightly-contested final and the players showed great composure to get the win. Congrats to all involved and to the management team of Jimmy O’Brien, Alan O’Dowd and Eoin Doherty.

The DRP boys U15 footballers in Scarden last Sunday

A big well done also to our younger DRP boys U13 footballers who lifted the Sligo U13 C Shield title last Tuesday evening with a spirited 7-11 to 5-11 over St Pat’s in Cloonacool.

Hard luck to our DRP girls under-14 team in last Saturday’s county shield final in Curry. The girls lost out by the narrowest of margins but our panel of 25 players performed admirably to reach this stage of the championship. Thank you coaches & parents for all your encouragement & support.

There was an agonising defeat for our girls U16 footballers in last Monday night’s county shield semi-final against Tourlestrane in south Sligo. DRP came from 12 points down at one stage to force extra-time. The sides were still level after that – and Tourlestrane prevailed in the points-scoring shootout.
Nonetheless, the girls can be proud of another season of progress.

We had three dual club players in action for Naomh Eoin in last Sunday’s Sligo senior hurling championship final at Markievicz Park. Paul O’Brien, Donnchadh O’Brien and Thomas Davis all played their part in a gutsy display by Naomh Eoin which just came up short against reigning champions Easkey, the holders winning by four points in the end.

Good luck to our under-13 hurlers who play Easkey this Friday evening in the Co Shield final at 6pm.

Our Saturday morning U7 All-Star footballers finished off their coaching season in style last Saturday morning with a party and presentation in Oxfield. Special thanks to all the mums and dads who baked some delicious treats for end-of-season gathering. We’ll start working off the calories again when the new season begins in early March.
